The act aimed to regulate every aspect of the Danish betting industry and introduced licensing. It brought measures against money laundering, illegal gambling, and match-fixing. Since then, changes have been made to strengthen these controls further.

Danish Government Increases Online Gambling Tax

The original 2012 law that regulated online gambling in Denmark imposed a 20% GGR tax rate for operators. In 2021, the rate was increased to 28% of GGR. The move was made to raise funds for responsible gaming programs and improve the regulation of the market. The initial estimate was that the new tax rate would bring DKK 150 million ($23.6 million) in new revenue for the government. It is still significantly lower than 45% of GGR plus 30% of revenue above DKK 4 million ($630,000) paid by land-based casinos.
