Bundesliga is Germany’s top football league, and it has a promotion and relegation system to and from the 2. Bundesliga. The league has been using the 18-team format since 1992, as the team that finishes with the most points at the end of the season is crowned as the champion. The bottom two teams get relegated directly to the 2. Bundesliga, and they are replaced by the top two teams of the 2. Bundesliga, while the 16th-placed team plays in the relegation play-offs against the third team from the 2. Bundesliga for the last spot.
The 1. Bundesliga usually starts one week after the Premier League and La Liga kickoffs, and it finishes one week earlier than both competitions, as it has only 18 teams. Holstein Kiel and VfL Bochum got relegated to the 2. Bundesliga, while Hamburger SV and FC Köln got promoted to the Bundesliga this season; Heidenheim beat Elversberg in the relegation play-off and will stay in the league.

Borussia Dortmund are coming off a nice run in the Club World Cup, which Real Madrid ended in an exciting quarter-final matchup. BVB finished the last Bundesliga season with five straight wins, which put them in fourth place to take the last UCL spot. They had a lot of firepower in the attack last season, but they lacked consistency in defense, as they clearly had the worst defense among the top four teams, so if they can improve that, they will have very good chances of winning the Bundesliga title this time.
Red Bull Leipzig @ 17.0 (16/1)
The Red Bulls are still yet to win a Bundesliga season, but they finished as runners-up twice in the last decade. RB Leipzig sold their top scorer, Benjamin Sesko, to Man United, but they have improved their squad depth a lot by acquiring Cardoso Romulo, Yan Diomande, Johan Bakayoko, and Arthur Vermeeren. They finished 7th last season with only five goal differences, which is obviously not acceptable for them after finishing inside the top 4 in six consecutive seasons, so they will try to get back on track.
Eintracht Frankfurt @ 51.0 (50/1)
It has been 66 years since Eintracht Frankfurt won their first and only Bundesliga title. The Eagles sold their top two scorers in the league, Omar Marmoush and Hugo Ekitike, and they signed only Jonathan Burkardt to replace them, so they might struggle offensively in the new season. They scored 68 and conceded 46 goals in the last Bundesliga season, which put them in 3rd place. Frankfurt will most likely not win the title this season with UCL duties this term, and they will aim for a top-4 finish.
The Bundesliga betting odds have Bayern Munich as the big favorites for a reason. The Bavarians finished last season on a high note, as they were undefeated in their last nine games, and they won the title with 82 points, while Bayer Leverkusen had only 69 points in second place. Bayern Munich had by far the best offense in the league last season, having scored 99 goals in 34 league games, which was 28 more goals than the second-best team. They also had the best defense in the league.
The odds on Bayern Munich to win the title might not be enticing, but it’s a safe pick that should hit if everything goes as normal in the league. They won’t face any problems with the chemistry between players, as they added only two new players to the squad, while most of their contenders have changed a lot and will take time to adapt. The departure of Coman and Sane shouldn’t be a problem with the arrival of Diaz, so nothing can stop them from gaining another trophy.
Borussia Dortmund haven’t won the title since winning it back-to-back in 2011 and 2012, but they have shown some strong performances at the end of last season, beating Barca in the UCL and almost coming back from a 4-0 deficit from the first leg, and they were unbeaten in their last eight Bundesliga games. BVB have been excellent offensively under Niko Kovac, and they have room for improvement in the defense this season, which should give them decent chances of winning the league if Bayern Munich didn’t show up in their best form. Their only departure is Jamie Gittens, but they have talent and depth to replace him.
Harry Kane finished on top of the Bundesliga 24-25 top scorers list with 26 goals last season, while he was also on top of the list in the season before that with 36 goals. The English striker plays for the best attack in the league, and he has the penalty duties, which should increase his scoring tally this season. Kane has looked sharp in the pre-season, having scored two goals in three games, so we expect him to keep scoring and be the top scorer.
The Bundesliga football bookmakers have great odds on Hamburger SV getting relegated this season. The Red Shorts have looked terrible in the pre-season, having lost four consecutive friendly games, and they had the second-worst defense in 2. Bundesliga among the top four teams. Hamburger SV didn’t make any notable transfers so far in the summer window, and they will struggle with that defense in the Bundesliga, and might very well just go back to the 2. Bundesliga away.
