History of the FedEx BMW Championship
The BMW Open has been the penultimate event of the FedEx Cup since 2007. The tournament was known as the Western Open before its 2007 rebranding. Apart from the four majors, no regular PGA Tour event has been around longer than the BMW Championship.
Up until 2022, the field featured the top 70 in FedExCup points, but now it’s down to the top 50. There’s no 36-hole cut, and only the best 30 from here make it through to the Tour Championship for a shot at the FedExCup title.

Golf 2025 BMW Championship Odds & Favorites
Let’s start our 2025 FedEx Cup BMW Championship betting tips discussion by checking out the odds from the best golf bookies on the event’s five leading contenders.
Scottie Scheffler @ 3.75 (11/4)
World No.1 Scottie Scheffler has the shortest golf 2025 BMW Championship odds. The reigning FedExCup title-holder returned from Europe with the Open Championship trophy in his hands and tied for third in Memphis last week.
Rory McIlroy @ 9.00 (8/1)
Rory McIlroy is the only other player to have single-digit BMW Championship 2025 golf odds across American sportsbooks for diverse sports. The Northern Irishman will play for the first time since finishing T7 at the Open, and will hope to win his maiden BMW Championship.
Ludvig Aberg @ 23.00 (22/1)
Ludvig Aberg loves to play on long courses. The Swede won at Torrey Pines – the longest course in the PGA Tour – six months ago, and last year, he returned home from the BMW Championship with a T2. So, he presents a strong case for a 2025 FedEx Cup golf betting picks nomination.
Tommy Fleetwood @ 23.00 (22/1)
Tommy Fleetwood is yet to win a PGA Tour event, but last week he had another close finish that suggests his much-coveted first title might not be far away. The Englishman shared third place with Scheffler in the St. Jude Championship. He will hope for a slightly stronger finish this weekend.
Xander Schauffele @ 23.00 (22/1)
Xander Schauffele needs to leapfrog 13 players to punch his ticket to the Tour Championship at East Lake this season. He has never failed to progress from the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and a strong result at the BMW Championship can help him maintain that record.
BMW Championship 2025 Golf Betting Tips
After reviewing the field and the markets across sportsbooks, these are the 2025 FedEx Cup golf betting picks we recommend:
Ludvig Aberg to Win @ 23.00 (22/1)
2 (100%)
0
Aberg’s name always comes up as a strong contender on courses longer than 7500 yards. He delivered a T9 finish last week, just his second top-10 placement in the past 10 starts, but also his second in his last three.
Aberg did not take long to find his footing in the competitive world of PGA Tour golf. The 25-year-old won the 2023 RSM Classic in only his 15th PGA Tour start, then finished runner-up in his first major at the 2024 Masters. This year, he’s shown serious firepower off the tee, sitting 10th in strokes gained and within the top 25 for overall driving and distance.
The Swedish golfer seems to be hitting his best patch of form this year. As we already mentioned, he was one of the second-place finishers at Caves Valley last year. So we believe Aberg offers the best value in the 2025 BMW Championships outrights market.
Ben Griffin Top 10 Finish @ 3.60 (13/5)
0
(100%) 1
Ben Griffin has been a bit of a rollercoaster this PGA Tour season, but over the last three months, his numbers show he’s playing the best golf of his career. He has won two tournaments this year. Griffin won the Charles Schwab Challenge on May 25 and grabbed a runner-up finish at the Memorial a week later.
The 29-year-old has posted eight top-14 finishes in his last 10 events and ranks among the top 16 players in strokes gained off the tee, approach, putting, and tee-to-green over his past 24 rounds.
JJ Spaun to Finish Top Five @ 6.50 (11/2)
1 (100%)
0
Losing a playoff is always tough, but to come up short after three extra holes and miss out on a potential $3.6 million prize hits even harder. Still, Spaun’s $2.16 million payday for second place isn’t anything to sneeze at, and our analysis suggests he’ll be a force near the top again at the 2025 BMW Championship.
The 34-year-old stunned the golf world by winning his first major at the U.S. Open this year, and became one of the most longshot winners in majors history. Even though his golf 2025 BMW Championship odds are much shorter, Spaun remains a valuable pick this weekend, sitting third in the FedEx Cup and seventh in total strokes gained on the PGA Tour.
Recommended 2025 PGA BMW Championship Betting Picks
We are banking on Ludvig Aberg and Ben Griffin for our final 2025 FedEx Cup golf betting picks. Both players have the stats and form on their side to thrive at Caves Valley.
