England has not lost a home Test series since losing to New Zealand four years ago. Since then, the Three Lions have seen off South Africa, Ireland, the West Indies, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe on home soil.

The last time India toured England, however, the sides had to settle for a draw. Shubman Gill’s men won’t get much inspiration looking at their past records at Headingley, Leeds, however. They have only won twice in the seven Tests they have played there. One of them ended in a draw, and England had the last laugh in the other four.

Cricket sportsbooks in UK, therefore, feel confident about England’s chances of getting a winning start in the series in Leeds.

The History of India Touring England & Preview

India have previously tasted Test series success in England. Their most recent triumph, however, came 18 years ago when they managed a 1-0 victory over the hosts.

The proud cricketing nation has gone nearly two decades without a Test series win in England, failing to clinch victory in their last four tours to one of Test cricket’s original powerhouses. The two-time ICC World Test Championship runner-ups have also won series in England in 1986 and 1971.

India and England share one of the oldest rivalries in Test cricket. It has been 75 years since their first red-ball encounter, and since then, these two teams have produced some of the most memorable moments in Test match history.

In recent years, however, England has not been a happy hunting ground for India. They have visited The Land of Hope and Glory four times since their 2007 win and has lost three series. In their last visit, however, India confidently won in a five-Test series.

  • 7 March 2024 – India beat England by an innings and 64 runs
  • 23 February 2024 – India beat England by 5 wickets
  • 15 February 2024 – India beat England by 434 runs
  • 2 February 2024 – India beat England by 196 runs
  • 25 January 2024 – England beat India by 28 runs

India’s Recent Test Form

The best betting platform in India is not inflating odds for Team India after their below-par performance in Australia. Rohit Sharma and company won the first Test, but their momentum ran out soon as the hosts bounced back to secure a comeback 3-1 series win.

England’s Recent Test Form

England, on the other hand, picked up a routine victory against Zimbabwe last month. Earlier, they put New Zealand to the sword in a three-Test series away from home. England won the first two matches to seal the series, but failed to whitewash the hosts as the Kiwis picked up a consolation win in the final Test.

Indian openers have historically struggled in England. Team India has fielded 13 openers in England since 2001, but they got their best result by pairing up KL Rahul with Rohit Sharma during the 2021/22 tour. Rahul and Rohit’s first-wicket partnerships in the 2021–22 series totalled 421 runs—the most by any Indian opening duo in England since 2000.

While Rahul will be back in England for the upcoming series, Sharma will be watching from home after bidding farewell to Test cricket. Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to accompany him up top. The young opener is an excellent batsman, but it seems unlikely that he will last long in tricky English conditions.

Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett will open for England. The duo struck centuries against Zimbabwe last month. While India should be a more challenging assignment, we expect them both to outscore their Indian counterparts.

Joe Root could not guide England to the ICC Test Championship final this year, but he was in marvelous form throughout the 2023-25 Test cycle. Root was the most successful batter in the world within this period with a remarkable haul of 1968 runs.

England would be looking forward to their batting talisman delivering another solid performance against India. Root has an incredible record against India as well as he has scored 2,846 runs against them at an average of 58.08.
