The continental basketball tournaments continue with the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket starting this week. Tunisia is the two-time defending champion, having beaten Ivory Coast in the 2021 final and Nigeria in the 2017 final. The 2025 FIBA AfroBasket group stage draw was held in May in Luanda, and it promises a lot of exciting early matchups. The event starts on Tuesday, 12 August, and runs until Sunday, 24 August, 2025. The competition used to be held every two years, but it has been a once-every-four-year event since the 2017 edition. The tournament consists of 16 of the best African teams competing for glory. The teams are split equally into four groups of four teams each. Each team faces all the other teams in their groups once, with the top team qualifying directly for the quarterfinals. The second and third teams in each group qualify for the round of 16. The playoffs run in single-elimination matches after that until the finals.
The Basketball African Championship was first held in 1962 in Egypt, and the United Arab Republic won the first two titles. This will be the 31st edition of the tournament, and it will be the fourth time for Angola to host the event. There are eight teams that have won the AfroBasket Championship in history, but Angola has won by far the most gold medals (11). Egypt and Senegal are tied in second place with five titles each, while Tunisia has won it three times.

CĂ´te d’Ivoire is the second-highest African team on the FIBA world ranking, and they are in a relatively easy group in Group A alongside Rwanda, D.R. Congo, and Cape Verde. The Elephants did exceptionally well in the last edition, winning eight of nine games to win the silver medal, widening the available options on the African sports betting websites.
