We are exactly one week away from the start of the 2025–26 Belgian Pro League season. Royale Union Saint-Gilloise are the defending champions, having won their 12th title, their first in 90 years. There are a lot of good teams that will be fighting for the title this season, especially with the transfer window being open until September.
The 2025–26 Belgian Pro League season full schedule was released recently, as the competition kicks off on July 26, 2025, and ends on May 25, 2026. The opening matchup is a highly anticipated game between Antwerp and Royale Union Saint-Gilloise next Friday. There are 16 teams competing for the championship this season, but it will be expanded to 18 teams starting from the 2026–27 season.

The Belgian Pro League is organized in a relegation/promotion style with the Challenger Pro League. The league consists of 16 teams, as each team plays a total of 30 matches in the regular season. After that, the top six teams in the standings qualify for the championship group, the following six teams qualify for the conference league group, while the bottom four teams play in the relegation group.
The Jupiler Pro League season starts a little earlier than most of the European leagues, on July 26, and it will run for about 10 months. Zulte Waregem and La Louvière got promoted to the Jupiler Pro League this season, while KV Kortrijk and Beerschot VA were relegated to the Challenger Pro League.
The Belgian Pro League was first established in 1895, and FC Liégeois won the first-ever title. Anderlecht have won the most championships of any Belgian club (34), and they are followed by Club Brugge with 19 titles, while the Royale Union SG have won 12 championships.
This will be the 123rd edition of the Jupiler Pro League. The system of the championship, relegation, and conference league groups was first introduced in 2009, so this will be the 17th edition with this format.

Club Brugge will be the favorites in a two-horse race with Royale Union SG, as they aim to reclaim the title after losing it in the last rounds last season. The Smurfs haven’t been very active in this transfer window so far, but they are always one of the contenders for the top four.
Anderlecht last won the Belgian Pro League in the 2016–17 season, but their current squad is much weaker than the one they had that year. They managed to reach the Belgian Cup final last season, but they lost it to Club Brugge in a thrilling game. The Purple and White’s most notable transfer this season is the 18-year-old Serbian striker, Mihajlo Cvetkovic, who has done well with Cukaricki lately.
You can’t find an older club in Belgium than Antwerp, and they have won five titles so far, lastly in the 2022–23 season. The Reds finished outside of the top four for the last two seasons, and their preparations for the new season haven’t been ideal either, as they are on a four-game winless streak right now. They reached the semifinals of the Belgian Cup last season and were close to knocking out Anderlecht.

Club Brugge haven’t lost the title in consecutive seasons since 2015, consistently bouncing back after a poor campaign. They managed to win the 2025 Belgian Cup final after defeating Anderlecht, and they made one of the biggest upsets of the UCL last season by knocking out Atalanta from the round of 32. FC Bruges are having very good preparations for the new season with two wins and two draws, which pushes their unbeaten streak to 10 games.
FC Bruges have one of the best-balanced squads in the league, and they have very nice odds to win the title, since they have won six of the last 10 Belgian Pro League editions.

Westerlo are the complete opposite, as they have lost four of their six friendly games in the pre-season, so this looks like another home win for the Purple and White over them.
