Regulatory Track Records

22Bet had a few run-ins with regulatory bodies in the past, but has yet to face any fines. In 2019, its parent company, Marikit Holdings Ltd, was the subject of a complaint in Cyprus by a user who wanted to delete their account and erase their data from the platform. The person claimed the bookie denied the request and was only willing to block the account for one year. In response to the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection, the company said it couldn’t verify the individual’s identity as they didn’t provide a relevant email address during the registration process. After verifying the user’s identity, 22Bet approved the request, leading to the dismissal of the case.

In New Zealand, the Problem Gambling Foundation complained to the Department of Internal Affairs that 22Bet targets local punters with misleading ads. The bookie used an ad featuring retired cricketer Brendon McCullum as part of a promotional campaign in New Zealand despite not being licensed there. The Department of Internal Affairs eventually contacted the bookmaker with a request to stop this kind of promotional campaign.

22Bet posts its odds earlier than most other bookmakers. The odds were available several months ahead for high-profile events, like boxing fights, FIBA EuroBasket, and matches of the Premier League’s season opening. For less-popular sports, the odds are present seven days before kickoff.

I could choose between six odds formats: Decimal, US, UK, Hong Kong, Indonesian, and Malaysian. There was a quick toggle for formats on the home page on mobile and desktop versions of the site and the app. When using the default Decimal format, odds appear with three decimal places. However, this changes depending on the market. The outcomes are sometimes rounded to two decimal places; double chance bets may show just one decimal place.

The platform adjusts the odds in real time. The increased odds are marked with green animation and temporarily turn green; the lowered odds are marked with red animation and temporarily turn red. Clicking an event lets you track how the odds have moved since they were posted. You’ll see this information in a chart format.

22Bet offers margins between 5% and 6% for popular sports. There is no noticeable uplift across different jurisdictions. The operator doesn’t disclose how margins are calculated. It only provides short instructions on calculating implied probability from odds as part of its Help Section.

22Bet offers traditional methods like bank transfers, debit/credit cards, e-wallets, mobile payment services, prepaid vouchers, and cryptocurrency. Additionally, the bookie includes locally popular payment methods for each regulated market.

For example, in Canada, punters can use card payments through Visa and Mastercard, although bank alternatives like Interac and iDebit are preferred. Alternatives include cryptocurrency and e-wallets like Jeton, Skrill, and AstroPay. 

In Ireland, there are a total of 45 available options. The list includes Visa and Mastercard, Skrill and Neteller, and prepaid options in Paysafecard. Various bank transfer options are available, including Revolut, N26, and Wise.

In African countries, 22Bet offers various mobile payment services, which are the preferred method locals use to pay for goods and services. The selection depends on the country, but the most frequent are Airtel, M-PESA, MoMo (MTN Mobile Money), Vodafone Cash, and Tigo Pesa. They are usually available for withdrawals and deposits.

Punters will have access to a wide range of cryptocurrencies regardless of country. The list of available tokens is regularly updated. Supported crypto coins include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tron, Dogecoin, Binance Coin, Litecoin, XRP, and Solana. Deposits with this method are instant; withdrawals can take up to 24 hours. 

The deposit and withdrawal minimums were clearly stated each time I clicked on a payment method. The bookmaker doesn’t charge any fees for these transactions, although some options come with added costs charged by the payment provider. Deposits are instant for most options aside from wire transfers. Withdrawals can take 15 minutes for e-wallets and up to 7 business days for payment cards. I was most impressed by novelty bets. For example, I could place a wager on the outcomes of elections in several countries and the way certain political decisions will turn out. There were also options for predicting the winners of TV shows and miscellaneous celebrity rumors, like whether legendary quarterback Tom Brady will confirm his relationship with actress Sydney Sweeney.

Esports receives great coverage at 22Bet. I could browse markets for Counter-Strike tournaments, DOTA 2, League of Legends, Valorant, Rainbow Six, CrossFire, and Halo. There is also an option to bet on Game of the Year Award winners. 

For core sports like football, 22Bet includes pre-season matches, reserve leagues, friendlies, and regional cups. There is also a wide range of lower-tier and youth leagues and women’s competitions. You can stake on futures like season and tournament winners, top scorers, and awards. For example, England has an astonishing selection, and you can bet on who’ll win the Premier League and the winners of all lower tiers. There are additional intriguing markets. One example is whether Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz will score over or under two goals from the assists provided by Jeremie Frimpong. 

22Bet prioritizes national leagues and competitions, displaying them as the “TOP CHAMPIONSHIPS” section on the sports list. I could edit it by adding any competition that I was interested in. 

Flagship matches usually have over 1,200 markets available in pre-match wagering. The market counter is prominently visible in the event header. I could place standard bets like moneyline and totals, but also choose a variety of handicaps and player props. The bookie offers period markets for each half or quarter on top of interval options like “goal after minute” and “goal in time interval.” I could pick whether I want to see the full range of markets at once or filter them by groups like “popular,” “totals,” and “players.”

22Bet offers the Bet Builder option, which is called “Constructor.” I had to turn it on using the slider in the event’s header to use it. The number of eligible markets for this option is lower than the competition. The bookmaker also offers pre-constructed combinations of markets, which usually focus on the final result and goals/points totals. 

Live Betting and Streaming

Using 22Bet’s in-play platform, I could place live bets on most pre-match sports the bookie offers. It includes major sports like football, basketball, cricket, and tennis, and niche sports like volleyball, table tennis, darts, and Esports. Another positive thing was the availability of lower-tier leagues, youth and women’s leagues, and friendlies. The live markets are available 24/7 and cover leagues worldwide, including Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Australia. 

The number of markets on the in-play platform depends on the sport and the event’s popularity. Aside from traditional options, there are various “quick events,” which include wagering on correct results for short intervals. Football usually has 500+ markets, tennis between 100 and 150, and niche events between 10 and 50 markets.

Every in-play event features a comprehensive scoreboard. For football, it displays all the most important statistics like yellow cards, corners, dangerous attacks, and the recent form of teams. For other sports, it shows the basic information, like current results. More detailed stats open up if you click on a separate section. Some events, like tennis matches, also feature animated match trackers. 

Despite the odds changing, there was no noticeable delay when placing in-play wagers. I could also set a rule on whether I want to accept any odds change or just the increased ones. The bookie offers cash out on live selections, although the availability of this option depends on the market. The bookie refers to it as “Bet Slip Sale.” I could select between full, partial, and auto cash out. 

22Bet also has a live streaming feature, but it isn’t standalone. You need to access the “LIVE” section and tick the box next to “With live stream.” After that, the platform will display every in-play event you can watch live. Choose the event and click the “Show video stream” button to open the player. The selection will depend on your location. High-profile events are usually unavailable, but there is no lack of content. For example, during my review, I could watch games from the Nigeria Community Cup, the British Twenty20 cricket league, the Under 20 Six Nations Championship for women, and Premier Padel Malaga. Best of all, I didn’t even need any funds in my account.

The first thing I’ve noticed is that the 22Bet website has many banners and features on the main page. This is likely why it loads more slowly on desktop and mobile. On the positive side, the registration process was simple and fast. I only needed to select the bonus I wanted, enter basic information, and I already had access to the entire platform.

You’ll find the list of sports on the left side. The header allows quick navigation to different sections, including live betting, casino, bonuses, and Esports. The shortcuts for virtual sports, statistics, and results are clearly visible. You can also switch between different odds formats at all times, and there is no need to refresh for a new format to be displayed. The format is updated as soon as you select it.

The sports menu can be challenging because I needed to first scroll down to a particular sport, click on it to reveal different competitions, and only then could I get the full offer of markets. One thing that makes things easier is the search option. All you need to do is enter a team or an athlete, and the bookie will show you all games and competitions associated with them in under a second. Unfortunately, the search feature isn’t predictive. I could filter the events based on the time left before they start or include all the matches scheduled for a particular date. There is also an option to select sports that will be featured on the main platform for pre-match and in-play wagering. 

The bet slip is conveniently located on the right side and doesn’t interfere with the rest of the content. My Account is displayed as a drop-down menu when you hover over it, but it doesn’t take up much space. 

I could not find an option to change between dark and light mode. However, there were other ways I was able to customize my experience. In the “Account Settings” section, I could select whether I wanted my balance displayed on the top panel. I could also receive emails on news, deposits, and bet outcomes.

Mobile Web App

The mobile web app offered by 22Bet is slow and doesn’t follow the design of iOS and Android apps. The small font makes it harder to see the full market information, so navigation is challenging. There is no drop-down list of sports; I needed to select all or scroll horizontally to go through all options. Whenever I tried to access a different section, I needed to sit through an animation while the page loaded. The bet slip is also poorly designed, as it takes up the entire screen once you click it. You need to close it completely and add more markets. The same happens when you try accessing the main or accounts menu.

iOS App

The iOS app provides a much better mobile wagering experience. It is fast, with no lag when switching between sports or different sections. I could customize the footer to include the most interesting sections, turn on the dark theme, and decide what I want to see on “Popular Page.” Additionally, I could set up “quick bets” and “one-click” bets, and make several other tweaks for quicker betting. The app allowed me to track events I am interested in and select push notifications with an LED indicator for match events.

Navigation is user-friendly; you can reach any league with just three clicks. There is a search option at the top, and it displays results as soon as you start typing. You can also select frequently searched terms. The live streaming feature works great on the apps, with full-screen mode and no lag.

The only downside of the 22Bet app is the bet slip. When creating the accumulator, I needed to click on the odds and then on “Add to bet slip” for every market I wanted to add. Additionally, once you open the bet slip in full screen, you can’t close it and return to the same page. Instead, you need to click on one of the widgets in the footer.

The 22Bet app for iOS is available on the App Store in regions where the bookie has a local license. In Uganda, it has a 3.6 rating from 65 reviews. In Nigeria, it’s rated 4.0 from 704 reviews. The section is updated every couple of days with new material. There is an option to like and share the content, but no comments section exists. 

The bookie also provides a wide range of betting information in its “Terms and Conditions” section. Here, you can find descriptions of different types of bets and check out practical examples.
